Annual Meeting Lebanese Economic Association (LEA)

“Beyond the Rentier State: Options for Lebanon” was the title of this year’s keynote speech at LEA’s Annual Meeting in Beirut on 10 December 2009, organised in cooperation with the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Liberty (FNF). The speech was delivered by Dr. Omar Razzaz, a former World Bank representative for Lebanon and current director of the Jordanian Social Security Corporation as well as member on LEA’s International Advisory Board.

In his speech Dr. Razzaz focused on the challenges facing the Lebanese and the regional economies. In the audience: LEA members and invited observers, among them senior economists, bankers as well as representatives of the World Bank, UN-ESCWA, the IMF, members of civil society organisations, diplomats, Lebanese government officials and journalists.
In their respective statements, LEA President, Dr. Jad Chaaban, and FNF Resident Representative, Ralf Erbel, underlined their gratitude for what they both called an excellent and fruitful cooperation between LEA and FNF. Both emphasised their commitment to continuing and strengthening the collaboration in 2010.
LEA is a non-profit association that aims to facilitate and promote the exchange of economics research on Lebanon among professional economists, and with the broader public – including students, NGOs and government institutions – and is one of FNF’s principal partner organisations in Lebanon.
